2019 Naveran Brut Cava – The Naveran Estate dates back to the 11th Centuey in Penedes, Spain. Cavas Naveran was founded in 1984 by Michel Naveran, a businessman and enologist with extensive knowledge of the Penedès land and who decided to promote a project deeply rooted in the terrain of his ancestors, which would maintain its ever-present traditional family culture. This sparkling wine is a blend of Macabeo, Xarel.lo, Chardonnay, and Parellada. This wine is a pale green-tinged yellow. It is suave and has a highly perfumed bouquet that evokes fresh citrus and orchard fruits and pungent flowers. Silky and penetrating on the palate, it offers an intense Meyer lemon and green apple flavors that deepen on the back half.
2017 Westrey Chardonnay -Westrey Wine Company was founded in 1993 by co-winemakers Amy Wesselman and David Autrey, along with David’s father, Robert Autrey, in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Amy and David focus on crafting elegant Pinot Noir wines, fruit-driven Burgundian-style Chardonnay and crisp, refreshing Pinot Gris. The wines are designed to be balanced and ageworthy. This Chardonnay consists of 100% 41-year-old Draper Selection clonal material from their estate, Oracle Vineyard, located in the Dundee Hills. The old, non-irrigated vines really showed their greatness. The wine displays the broad, rich character with the vibrant acidity. Aromas of ripe pear and baked apple are accompanied by balanced fruit and wonderful natural acidity on the palate. The Chardonnay has a very Burgundian texture on the palate. Each barrel was vinified separately in French oak using multiple a diversity of yeasts to increase complexity. The wine underwent a complete malolactic fermentation before bottling. It was left on the lees during the aging process to add a slight yeasty character and a velvety texture. This ten barrel lot had 15% new oak in it. Only 268 cases produced.
2019 Muga Reserva Rioja-Bodegas Muga is a family business founded by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño in 1932. They produce some of my favorite Spanish wines!! This wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. The grapes are harvested by hand, and fermented with indigenous yeast in wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 24 months in casks made from selected oak. The wood is sourced in a proportion of 80% French oak and 20% oak from America. After bottling, it is then left to refine in bottle for a minimum of 12 months before release for sale.
2021 Trig Point ‘Diamond Dust Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon– Trig Point is produced by Nick Goldschmidt and his wife Yolyn. After flying the globe for many years as the head-winemaker for the likes of Simi, Allied Domecq, and Beam Estates, Nick decided to start a family company with his wife Yolyn in 1998. The goal of the company was to focus on site specific wine making from great vineyard sites from around the world. Having produced so many world class wines from around the globe, Nick knew exactly from which vineyard sites he would choose to make his wines. The wines Nick and Yolyn Goldschmidt produce are all single vineyard, handcrafted, small production, artisan wines. This single vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley in Sonoma, California has a deep purple hue with a red middle, having aromas of blueberry and dark cherry. There is a concentration of blackberries, bittersweet chocolate, and maple with round supple tannins. The finish is luxurious and velvet-like as it gracefully ends.
