2019 La Cana Albariño La Cana is a joint project from Jorge Ordonez and the Gil family of Jumilla. The vines were planted in 1966 in the northern part of Rias Baixas, Spain close to the Atlantic Ocean. The classic sandy soils of the region and cool climate produce a vibrant wine of tremendous acidity and complexity. The wine is partially barrel fermented and all of it spends time sur lie aging to enhance the richness of the varietal. It has a range of citrus flavors, stony minerality and a mouthwatering finish.
2018 Vignerons de Buxy Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir Vignerons de Buxy was created thanks to the determination of the Cote Chalonnaise winegrowers to pool their talents in a common project and make their wine, tend to their vines and sell and market their product together. The story behind this venture is one of a human and social endeavour stretching back over 80 years. Situated in the heart of wine-growing Burgundy, the Côte Chalonnaise is ideally placed to convey every nuance of the region. These grapes are grown from calcareous soil. The wine is aged first in stainless steel vats, then in wooden barrels or casks. It has a very intense color, with hints of ruby. This wine offers a wide palette of aromas dominated by cherry and red fruits. It also has hints of smoke and leather. Its structure is finely balanced with harmonious tannin.
2019 Finca Sophenia Estate Reserva Malbec Finca Sophenia is a beautiful estate located in the high altitude Tupungato Valley region of Mendoza, Argentina. Tupungato sits at the western extreme of Mendoza right at the foot of the Andes mountains with an elevation of 4000 feet giving benefit to the vineyards from a much cooler climate, abundant sun, and sharp contrast between day and night temperatures. When all of the above is combined it allows Julia Halupzcok, the winemaker and consultant Matias Michelini, the opportunity to produce wines with utmost expression. This Reserve Malbec has an intense deep red color with violet hues, complex aromas of plums, ripe cherries and violets. It is enhanced by the presence of dried fruits and a hint of fresh mint. This is a wine of great concentration, showing sweet and voluminous tannins and wonderful complexity.
2019 Michael David ‘Earthquake’ Zinfandel Brothers Michael and David Phillips, are 5th generation grape growers whose family has been farming the soil in Lodi, California since the 1860’s and cultivating wine grapes since the early 20th century. Zinfandel has helped put Lodi on the international wine map. The original is the Earthquake Zin which came from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake. This is a rich, burly Zinfandel that offers over the top concentration and intensity. Opening with luscious red fruit and vanilla bean aromas, this full-bodied Zin oozes flavors of raspberry jam, black licorice and tobacco carried though by a fruit laced finish.
