2019 Villa Wolf Gewurtztraminer Founded in 1756, in the Pfalz region of Germany, the J.L. Wolf estate (now called Villa Wolf) was a successful and highly regarded winery for more than two centuries. It entered an especially glamorous era with the construction of its estate house and villa in 1843. In the latter years of the 20th century, however, the estate languished, lacking a firm hand to guide its wine production. Ernst Loosen, of the Dr. Loosen estate, took over the vineyards in 1996, launching a dramatic turnaround in the estate’s quality and reputation. Since 2011, the estate has been managed by a talented and dedicated young team that previously worked at Dr. Loosen. Sumi Gebauer and Patrick Möllendorf have brought renewed energy and focus to the viticulture and winemaking at Villa Wolf. This wine is is clean, fruity, and wonderfully light on its feet. It shows off the aromatic charm of the variety without being heavy. It has a deliciously juicy texture and a delightfully delicate aroma of spice and fresh roses.
2020 Justin Girardin Macon Rosé This 100% Rose of Gamay from the Maconaisse region of Burgundy is perfect for the Fall and particularly the Thanksgiving tablescape. It is from Justin Girardin, nephew of famed Burgundy producer Vincent Girardin. He also produces AMAZING wines in his own right. It is dark pink in color with aromas of ripe strawberry, raspberry, lemon, orange zest, & wet stone minerality. The palate is dry but fruit forward with decent acid and a medium body. Overall, this wine is fruit forward and delicate at the same time.
2019 Henry Fessy Beaujolais Villages ‘Vieilles Vignes’ This light, yet complex, red out of Beaujolais in Burgundy, France is comprised of 100% Gamay. To be clear, the is not the Beaujolais Noveau your grandparents would buy for Thanksgiving!!! This estate has been making Beaujolais of the highest quality since 1888. The nose reveals rich aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and black currant. It has a beautiful length on the palate with red and black fruits notes that give way to a pleasant earthiness. This wine has a very nice balance of fruit, acid, and soft tannins.
2018 Alexander Valley Vineyards Sin Zin After purchasing the historic Cyrus Alexander homestead in 1962, Harry and Maggie Wetzel strived to create a thriving agricultural lifestyle on the property. They raised their children along with their vines in Alexander Valley, providing inspiration and encouragement as they developed the estate together. Decades later, the fourth generation of their family is growing up amongst vineyards and next door to the working winery that is known around the world as “AVV”. Sin Zin was first produced in 1978. This vintage is a rich Zinfandel with flavors of black cherry, strawberry, plum, black pepper chocolate and slight violet. This is a mouth filling, rich Zinfandel with great balance and a nice smooth finish.
