“Iberian Wine Box”

This first case for the month of October is the Iberian Wine Box. Inspired by a recent wine dinner at SpringHouse on the beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama, @poppavino has put together a wine case inspired by the enchanting Iberian Peninsula. Fun fact- @justthewino lived in Spain and speaks Spanish. Having traveled extensively throughout the region, the wines of Portugal and Spain are near and dear to her heart.

3 Bottles of 2020 Raza Vinho Verde

Quinta da Raza was established 1791, and today they have 40 hectares of prime vineyard, in the sub region of Celorico do Basto. This is southern Vinho Verde, not too far from the lower reaches of the Douro in Portugal. Their classic Vinho Verde is utterly delicious with fruit quality shining through. This wine has a slight effervescence with notes of green apple, grapefruit, and melon.

3 Bottles of 2020 Olivares Rosado

This Rose out of Jumilla, Spain is made from 100% Grenache. This wine has hints of melon, citrus, and delicate red fruit tones that lead off on the nose and follow on the palate, with fresh bright acidity, lively fruit, a hint of citrus pith to provide some lovely nerve, and dry, clean focus from start to finish. Overall, this wine is delicate and refreshing!!

3 Bottles of 2019 Los Arraez Arcos

Bodegas Arraez was founded in 1950, and has been family owned and operated ever since. This Spanish red from Valencia is made from 100% Arcos de Miguel. This is an obscure, almost extinct indigenous red variety, but Los Arraez is championing it’s return. This particular wine is fermented and aged for 4 months in 9000 liter French Oak vats. It has a bright cherry color in the glass. It is a fresh, light red wine with complexity and persistence. It shows notes of red and black fruits, balsamic, eucalyptus, and white pepper.

3 Bottles of 2016 Bodegas Ego ‘Infinito’

This red out of Jumilla, Spain is a blend of 70% Monastrell, 20% Syrah, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It comes from vineyards all more than 40 years old. Scored 93 points by Wine Spectator, giving the following review, “Dense and velvety, this big red delivers flavors of currant, blackberry, cocoa and licorice. Ripe and heady, but well-integrated tannins and bright acidity keep this fresh and balanced in the modern style.”
