Announcing our April wine box collaborator, Lacey Howell, realtor, and Lake Martin native and Auburn grad. She was ranked the #8 Remax realtor in the state of Alabama last year and has been a top realtor in the Lake Martin area for six years. We met Lacey and her husband John around ten years ago through spending times at the lake with mutual friends, Chef Rob McDaniel (formerly of SpringHouse and current owner and chef of Helen in Birmingham) and his wife Emily.
Lacey’s husband, John Howell, is also something pretty special. He is an extremely talented craftsman. Building things from the iron/window walls featured in Lucy’s restaurant, to the bar stools at Southeastern in downtown Auburn, to the wine room in Helen in downtown Birmingham, just to mention a few of his projects. Check out his website here for some pictures of his work: https://www.madwindstudio.com/

This case includes a white Pinot Noir from Italy, an Oregon Pinot Noir from a winery where us winos were married, an Italian Barbera, and last but not least, an Australian Cabernet Sauvignon that will have you ready to throw another steak on the barbie. 2020 Cavallotto ‘Pinner’ Pinot Nero Bianco Cavalolotto and the location of the farm, vineyards, and winery have documented history dating back to the 18th century in the Peidmont region of Italy. The Cavalotto family have owned the estate since 1928. In 1946, they started wine production, and they released their first Barolo under the Cavallotto name in 1948. This wine received a 94 point score from Wine Spectator with the following review, “Made from grapes of organically farmed, old Pinot Nero vines and vinified as a white wine, this is absolutely delicious. It opens with enticing aromas of field flowers, wild berries and orchard fruit along with a whiff of camphor. Elegant and savory, the polished palate features tart cherry, pomegranate, rhubarb and fennel seed alongside a tangy mineral note.” Outstanding wine for Spring and Summer!!

2019 Maysara ‘3 Degrees’ Pinot Noir On April 1st, 1997, Moe and Flora Momtazi bought 496 (of the now 532) acres of abandoned wheat farm just south of their home in McMinnville, Oregon. Since then, along with their 3 daughters; Tahmiene, Hanna, and Naseem they have turned that land into gorgeous vineyards and winery. This particular pinot noir from them is a project of the 3 sisters. Approachable and well-structured, aromas of blackberry and dark cherry fruits waft out of the glass. The palate awakens the senses with a bold core of elegant red and black fruits, earthy undertones, juicy acidity, and youthful tannins. A special note; this family and winery will always hold a very special place in our hearts because it is where we got married in 2015!

2019 Vietti Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne Located in the heart of the Langhe hills, at the top of the village of Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti wine cellar was founded in the late 1800s by Carlo Vietti. The grapes are sourced from the La Crena vineyards in Agliano Terme and from several other villages in the hills around Asti. This wine is ruby red in color with mineral and vanilla notes. It is a medium-bodied, dry wine with a crisp acidity and soft tannins. This Barbera is very well balanced, with a good complexity and a red cherry finish.

2018 Farm to Table Cabernet Sauvignon This Cabernet Sauvignon is made by Fowles Wines in Victoria, Australia. This wine embodies their connection to the land and their enjoyment of it through quality food and wine. It is comprised of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Shiraz. In the glass, it is a dense dark red with purple hues. One the nose it shows aromas of dark blackberry fruits, hints of wild herbs and oak spice. On the palate it is smooth and rich with dark cherry and plum flavors balanced with a hint of black pepper and dusty tannins.
