“Wicked Old World Wines”

Announcing our December wine box collaborators, Andy & Marty Anderson, Alabama natives, entrepreneurs, and fellow wine admirers.

I am sure many of you have heard of at least one of their businesses’, Wickles Pickles. They are wickedly delicious! If you haven’t tried, them, you should. They are a staple Alabama food product. They also have a new pickled garlic clove that @justthewino loves!

Some other businesses Andy and Marty are a part of are two of our favorite places to eat, The Waverly Local & Plaza Bar and Lounge in Midtown.

Marty is also the co-owner of All For Children and an Academic Dyslexia Specialist. All For Children specializes in speech, language, auditory, reading, math, occupational, and physical therapies. Their services are an invaluable asset to the Auburn/Opelika community and make differences in the lives of children every day. Also, some of our favorite people work there!

2020 Pazo de Seoane ‘Rosal’ This Spanish White produced by La Rioja Alto is comprised of a blend of 60% Albarino, 12% Caino, 12% Loureiro, and 7% Treixadura from Rias Baixas in Galicia in Northwestern Spain. This wine shows aromas of pineapple, yellow apple and citrus on the nose. The palate is crisp and juicy with hints of sea salt and minerals that blend with flavors of nectarine and tangerine. This is great as an aperitif or paired with food!!

2020 Clos Coutale Rose This rose that is a Kermit Lynch selection is made from 100% Malbec in Cahors in Southwestern France by sixth generation winemaker Phillipe Bernede. Fermented in stainless steel using only indigenous yeasts and aged on the lees for 1 month, this is an outstanding rose for cooler climates as it is a more full bodied style of rose showing bright red fruit, with persistent acid and minerality that make for a mouth watering finish.

2017 Torre de Ona Finca San Martin Crianza Wines from the Rioja region of North Central Spain have laws that dictate their aging and classification. As a Crianza, this wine, by law, has to have been aged a minimum of 2 years with one of those years being in Oak barrels. It is made from 100% Tempranillo, and is dark-cherry red in the glass. With an intense nose of cranberries and blackberries, balsamic, cocoa, and freshly-ground coffee. It is intense and well-balanced on the palate, with an elegant freshness, balance, fine tannins and a smooth finish that is fruit-laden with marked notes of red fruit underscored with balsamic notes from barrel aging.

2015 Les Hauts de Trintaudon This Left Bank Bordeaux from Haut-Medoc is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It is a secondary bottling from famed Bordeaux producer Chateau Larose-Trintaudon. This wine is a beautiful dark ruby color with an intense nose of red ripe berries as well as spicier vanilla notes. On the palate the wine is incredibly round with a dense tannic structure, but not overpowering. It has great freshness finished off by slight mineral undertones and a silky texture.
