Us “Winos” are celebrating our wedding anniversary on June 8th! In honor of this special occasion, we have compiled a celebratory case of wine from the region where we got married, the Pacific Northwest! Of course, we got married in a vineyard! We eloped and everything about the day was magical. The winemaker has become a dear friend. The PNW is one of our most favorite places on earth and we are excited to share a part of it with you!
We were married in the Willamette Valley, at Maysara Winery in 2015. This case highlights several varietals from this region. It contains two wines from this specific winery, Maysara, another Chardonnay from Oregon, and a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Columbia Valley in Washington. 3 Bottles of 2019 Maysara ‘Arsheen’ Pinot Gris
This 100% biodynamically farmed Pinot Gris from the Momtazi Vineyard in the McMinnville AVA of the Willamette Valley of Oregon is a stunning white wine, and it is absolutely perfect for this time of year. It pairs well with food, or works wonderfully as a cocktail or apertif! It was awarded a 92 point score from Wine Enthusiast. 90% of this wine was fermented in stainless steel and 10% in concrete. Arsheen was an Archeamenian Princess during the 500 B.C. Era. She taught Astronomy and was granted the role of winemaker in the palace due to her impeccable palate and knowledge. A bright expression of fruit right up front, greeting your palate with notes of cut grass on a warm day. The wine is anchored by crisp acidity, but not so much as to overpower a fleeting tease of sweetness that leaves you smiling.
3 Bottles of 2018 Elouan Chardonnay
Elouan is an Oregon project of Joe Wagner. The Wagner family produces a number a very well known and sought after brands in California; Caymus, Belle Glos, Quilt, and Mer Soleil just to name a few. This Oregon Chardonnay has an abundant floral aroma of acacia blossoms and rose petals accompanied by citrus and white pear. Pale straw yellow in color, this Chardonnay has bright acidity with very light oak followed by flavors of tropical fruit, lime zest and a touch of nectarine. This wine has a smooth and well-balanced mouth-feel, with a lingering and bright finish
3 Bottles of 2018 Maysara ‘3 Degrees’ Pinot Noir
Three Degrees is a Pinot Noir made by the Momtazi sisters; Tahmiene, Hannah, and Naseem. They set out to make a Pinot that tastes great, comes from high quality grapes, all while being affordable for everyone. It is a vibrant and snappy Pinot with intriguing notes of fresh earth, oak leaves and pepper that are woven together in the initial impression. Notes of blackberry, dark cherry, and pomegranate show on the palate, while lifted, verdant tannins give this wine a firm structure for the vintage to showcase its characteristic spiciness.
3 Bottles of 2017 Growers Guild Cabernet Sauvignon
For the 4th and final wine in this case we are going to travel a bit Northeast from Oregon to the Columbia Valley of Washington for this selection from Owen Roe. This is a fruit-forward, yet bold Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine exudes juicy aromas of pomegranate, blackberry and tobacco spice. On the palate it shows flavors of red plums, hints of eucalyptus and mint with a balanced mouth-feel. This Cabernet finishes smooth with bright acidity and firm tannins.
